Teacher Training
Over the years of teaching students, one fact has become very clear. Teachers need training as well. Many education systems struggle to train their teachers, or fall behind in innovative methods. Many teachers are still trained in methods which were barely suitable fifty years ago. Many classrooms still find students frightened of the classroom, and teachers relying on rote repetition of delivered facts.
The specific pedagogy developed by Writing Through is not necessarily new, but it is new to many undertrained teachers where we work. To help remedy this, Writing Through also provides workshops where teachers are shown new techniques and encouraged to create a new classroom atmosphere — less formal, though still respectful. In Writing Through Teacher Training workshops, teachers become students again, experiencing the same workshops their students participate in. Our Facilitators teach by modeling our methods and local teachers learn by experiencing them first hand.
